My Favorite Dog Breeds

Shiba Inu breed

Shiba Inu

The Shiba Inu is one of a number of very ancient breeds associated with the northern “Spitz type” breeds from Japan. Its appearance is much like that of a “dwarf” Akita, having a fox like face and “brush coat” similar to the Akita and possessing much of the same temperament. It is a big dog in a small package. Its temperament is strong and independent. The Shiba Inu voices its objections or approval in a manner similar to the Basenji in that it is not a “barker” but more of a squealer or yodeller, depending on the situation. Furthermore it is not averse to “screaming” and this is noted to be one of the typical behaviors when the dog is upset or is not getting its way! The Japanese favored this dog above all others as a watchdog. This is a dog that does not mix well with other dogs and household pets. Most families preferred this dog and the Shiba Inu quickly established itself to the Japanese as status symbols and dog house pets. The dog was introduced into the Western world by Dr. John gravestone in 1981, with the first litter arriving in the United States byema in 1985.

The Shiba Inu’s popularity in the decades that followed, even into the 21st century, Despite this, the dog is still quite rare as are puppies, making the breed hard to identify and locate breeders in the United States. A few of them might turn out to be Argumentative, Affectionate, or both. However, the popularity of the breed has declined slightly in the last 15 years. This is a dog that is more of a family pet now and is rather adored by people of all walks of life. The Shiba Inu is a dog that is “all dog”. It is a devoted companion, playful, athletic, and very energetic. A downside is there licking and chewing. Our Shiba had an attraction to concrete and licked off the concrete of our deck which I then had to find ready mix concrete near me to have it replaced. This is a breed that will maintain a healthy weight without being overfed. It is not the best breed for people with allergies, as it does shed a lot. It can have flatulence as a result of extra gas, but is not overly concerned about this. The Shiba Inu will lick the tongue when it appears hungry. This is a breed that is not afraid of other dogs, and this will always serve to keep the two together.

Boston Terriers

Another small dog option that is quite popular is the Boston Terrier. The Boston Terrier is a mixture of English Bulldog, English White Terrier, Bulldog, and dilutes from the Griffons and the Pug. These dogs are quite easy to locate as Boston Terriers, and can usually be found at a local pet store. Unfortunately they are also one of the more unhealthy due to their excessive bloating.
